Sulene Ashton
My Story
One of my first memories as a child is playing on the grass with my granny. On this day, she decided to teach me that a person can run backwards. As the penny dropped and my legs worked with me in reverse, my world changed. Thinking back, I think this was the moment I realised that movement makes all my senses come alive! I have always practiced, learnt and studied movement methods in dance and fitness. I qualified as a Ballet teacher after school and then continued to study Dance Teaching at University where my Pilates journey started. After many years of studio ownership in South Africa my journey is taking on a new shape in the UK as an independent Pilates Teacher.
I believe that with the best suitable postural training for each person, everyone can reach their potential. When we move our bodies easier, everything gets easier and life becomes a joy. Not only because we are reaching our goals, but because the impossible becomes possible when our body and mind is in sync.

What do I do?
Sulene Ashton, a passionate Pilates and Movement teacher, has 23 years of experience in the Pilates industry. Through the years she has worked with clients of all ages and abilities. She has owned studios, provided training courses and workshops, hosted numerous retreats and much more. She recently moved to the UK with her husband and two daughters.
Sulene loves helping people improve their mobility, strength, flexibility, and overall well-being.
She is currently teaching Private Pilates Sessions Online. You might also catch her in a studio in the Reading area where she has some regular time slots or helps out with cover classes.
How do I do it?
As a dance teaching student at Pretoria Technical University I started Pilates classes as a form of cross training. I soon fell in love with the method and did my first Pilates course at university. I believe that Pilates is a powerful tool for improving physical and mental well-being, and I am committed to making it easily accessible. I have trained as a BASI Comprehensive student up to Mentorship level and have joined numerous courses since my first qualification in 2001. My approach is based on a deep understanding of the human body and its movement patterns, and I use that knowledge to create customised programs that meet the unique needs of each individual client. As a certified Instructor for Special Populations and Pre- and Post-Natal work I also enjoy working with people with special conditions. As a MAP Movement trainer I teach this unique method to help people move easier and with more confidence. When in a group setting I aim for a balanced approach. I particularly enjoy teaching private sessions, where we get to work on tailored programs for each client. For clients that want to look a little deeper into their movement patterns I apply the B3 technique during private sessions where I do muscle testing and rehabilitative Pilates exercises to solve neurological patterning in their bodies.
I love putting movement events together. Retreats, workshops, corporate wellness days and all sorts. Keep an eye on my events page, or reach out to me to discuss your specific needs.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced mover, I am here to help you achieve your goals and move more comfortably through life.

Here is a bit more information regarding the movement methods Sulene uses.
MAP is a movement technique that is unique in its development and execution. Sulene has trained since 2017 with the two physical therapists who are also the founders and is under their constant mentorship. This unique method focuses on Myofascial movement and training and is Sulene's preferred movement method for making bodies feel better and stronger. Join her for Private or Group sessions.
As a Pilates teacher with 23 years experience Sulene is passionate about helping people find their most comfortable posture. This is best achieved in Private sessions where we can focus on your specific needs - especially when you start with a new teacher. Sulene is an advanced B3 practitioner and includes this hands on technique in her Pilates practice. This includes muscle testing and neurological rehabilitation techniques to compliment your movement training. Contact her to set up a location for this hands-on session.
Sulene has been training barre teachers since 2014. She also teaches barre classes as a cover teacher at several venues. Look out for special events and barre classes popping up online.
